Kate Thompson Costume Designer and Wardrobe Stylist available for work in Kentucky, Ohio, and Nashville

About

Kate Thompson is a wardrobe stylist and costume designer who first fell in love with clothes as a kid, collecting Barbies and obsessively curating their tiny closets like full-blown character studies. That early fixation only grew stronger after watching Clueless, when she realized wardrobe could define attitude, identity, and story all at once. Growing up with a dad who owned a dry cleaner didn’t hurt either. Fabric, tailoring, and construction were just part of everyday conversation.

She got her start as an ecommerce stylist, learning how to make clothing translate on camera and sell a feeling in a single frame. From there, she moved into commercial film and television, where she could combine that technical precision with deeper, character-driven storytelling. She loves contemporary costuming just as much as diving into a period piece, chasing the details that make a world feel specific and lived in.

These days, Kate designs for commercials, independent films, and branded projects, collaborating closely with directors, producers, and talent to create wardrobe that feels intentional, cinematic, and grounded in character. Every choice has a point. Every look supports the story.

When she’s not on set or knee-deep in racks of clothing, Kate is probably hunting for vintage finds, reorganizing her closet for the hundredth time, or gently reminding her filmmaker husband that yes, the jacket absolutely matters.
